Who I am
Redcrest Photography is run by Gareth Mahoney, based in Tunbridge Wells, covering non-league football across Kent and the surrounding areas. This is a personal, non-commercial project: I have not received payment for any of the photographs on this site. For the purposes of UK data protection law I am the data controller for the personal data described on this page.
I only photograph at fixtures where the club knows I'm there and has agreed to it. If this ever becomes a paid or commercial service, I'll update this page to reflect that.
What I photograph, and why
Photographs of players, coaching staff, match officials and, where they're in shot, spectators, taken at football matches I've been given permission to cover. I don't collect any other personal data beyond what someone gives me directly if they email me.
My lawful basis is legitimate interests: covering an open, public-facing sporting fixture with the club's permission, and keeping a personal record of that work. I've weighed this against the privacy expectations of the people in frame; competitive football played in front of spectators carries a reasonable expectation of being photographed. You can object to this at any time; see Your rights below.
I don't use facial recognition or any other biometric matching, and I don't upload photos to AI tools or use them to train AI models.
Children and young people
The clubs I currently cover are adult teams, but if that ever includes a youth fixture, I work only with the club's knowledge and in line with their own safeguarding policy, and I confirm parental consent is in place before shooting. I avoid publishing a child's full name alongside their image, and I remove any image on request from a parent, guardian or the club, no questions asked.
Where photos go
Selected photos are shared on this website and on my Instagram and TikTok accounts. Nothing is sold, licensed, or passed to third parties, and I don't share personal data with data brokers or anyone building databases about individuals.
Asking me to remove a photograph
You don't need to be involved with the club, and you don't need to give a reason. If you appear in a photo on this site or my social accounts and want it removed, email [email protected] with the fixture, date, and a link or description of the image. I aim to take it down within five working days and confirm once it's done.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask what personal data I hold about you;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- ask for erasure of your data, including photographs;
- object to my use of legitimate interests as a basis for photographing you.
Email me to exercise any of these — I'll respond within one calendar month, free of charge.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, tell me first and I'll do my best to put it right. You can also complain to the UK's data protection regulator:
Changes to this policy
I'll update this page if what I do changes — including if this stops being a hobby project. The date at the top always shows the current version.
